Congratulations to Emily (@panic_itsemily) our November winner of the #StandTall Contest. Emily was nominated by her mother. She has faced many adversities in her life but still manages to give back to her community. Emily is a perfect representation of what our stand tall contest is all about. Read what her mom had to say about her…
“Emily is my 14 year old daughter. She is a 5’10” freshman in high school. At just 4 1/2 months old she was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Landerhans Cell Histiocytosis. It started by affecting her skin, then attacked her liver and spleen. At 8 1/2 months old she began a year of chemo and steroids. She has now been in remission for almost 12 years! She has attended a kids’ cancer camp since she was seven, and has done fundraisers to help give back to the organization, and is always reaching out to other young cancer warriors to tell them about camp. She is currently is a varsity cheerleader for her high school, is playing her 11th year of hockey (on a boys’ team!), sings competitively, and acts whenever she can fit it into her schedule! She keeps her grades up in advanced classes and has had all As except for two B’s in her 9 years of school. She is also a Student Council member and a member of the Interact Club (a community service organization through school). She has great leadership skills and is one tough cookie!”
You are a warrior Emily! Thanks for encouraging all of us. You are appreciated for everything that you do…
